Yoga is a practice for optimizing the health of the body and quieting the mind. It includes a variety of activities, including postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), and lifestyle practices. Yoga therapy is a synthesis of the ageless wisdom from the East with the most recent knowledge in complementary health from the West. The respective professional certificate programs prepare yoga instructors with practices for people with health challenges not normally met in a group class. These challenges can be physical, mental, or emotional. Yoga therapists prescribe specific regimens of postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to suit individual needs. Yoga therapy can be a means to manage illnesses or facilitate healing.
Darcy is a certified yoga teacher and yoga therapist of Big Sky Well Being in Orange County, CA. In the course of her career, she has attended several yoga trainings including her 200-hour Yoga Alliance instructor training at CorePower Yoga in 2010 as well as her 500-hour training through Inner Peace Yoga Therapy/Yoga Durango in March 2014 where she received her certification as a yoga therapist. Aside from training her skills and talents as an instructor, Darcy has also taken several trainings through Off The Mat Into the World with emphasis on leadership and transitioning the good work yoga does into the communities in which we live.
Darcy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She has volunteered teaching yoga at juvenile hall in Orange County for several years. She also has a Master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Non-Profit Management. Darcy is on the Board of Directors for two separate nonprofit organizations which are internationally based on raising funds for community centers—the first located in Kenya and the second in South Africa.
With regular yoga practice and meditation, Darcy has realized her improvement physically and mentally. Yoga has helped calm her mind and focus her thoughts and energy. She believes balance is obtained when we can accept our past and the lessons it provided while allowing us to move forward into the future with all of that knowledge. Darcy’s passion lies with helping others find their true purpose and authentic connection to their true being. Before one can truly connect with others, the first and most important connection should be made with yourself. There is no better place to find yourself and your truth than on your yoga mat at the same time improving your physical and mental well-being.
